In the UK and Wales there are lots of different charities and organisations that offer help, advice and support to people suffering from cancer and their families/carers. One of the best known in Wales is Macmillan Cancer Support Cymru.
Macmillan Cancer support is a charity that gives support to people suffering from cancer and their families. Macmillan also has specially trained nurses that can give specialist advice to people suffering from cancer. Macmillan nurses can be seen in most hospitals around the UK, one of which is in Glangwilli Hospital. In 2014, Carmarthen based Carmarthenshire People First teamed up with Macmillan to create a groundbreaking new training course called Check for Change. The aim of the Check for Change is for adults with learning disabilities to learn how to check their bodies for any signs of cancer. It has been very successful as it has won awards such as Disability Nurse of the Year. Every autumn, hundreds of organisations up and down the UK organise their fundraising coffee morning to raise money for one of the UK's best known cancer support charities, Macmillan Cancer Support. The aim of the World's biggest coffee morning is for people to come together and organise their own fun coffee morning and raise funds for cancer research.
This year's World's biggest coffee morning is 28th September.
