Here in Carmarthenshire there are lots of organisations and charities that support people with learning disabilities.
Two of the many charities that support disabled people in Carmarthenshire are Hijinx and Carmarthen / Llanelli Breakthro.
Carmarhten Breakthro is a local charity based in Nanterdieg and its main aim is to give carers of young disabled children a break by offering play schemes, holidays and weekends. It has been running in the county for over 3 decades. All staff and volunteers are qualified and have a CRB check. There is a Breakthro Branch in Llanelli as well and is located in the Coleshill Centre. Llanelli Breakthro is for adults with learning disabilities.
Hijinx is a Cardiff based charity which offers drama classes for people with learning disabilities. Hijinx is a innovative organisation as all the people in the group have either learning disabilties or health problems. As well as touring their own productions around Wales, they also have their own Academy. It is the aim of the Academy to improve peoples' self esteem and confidence through team building and acting and drama workshops. The Hijinx academy is based in two locations, Carmarthen and Aberystwyth. The Carmarthen branch of the Hiijinx Academy is based in the Lyric theatre and is on a Thursday and Friday.
