Around Wales and the county of Carmarthenshire there are lots of small local charities that totally rely on volunteers to keep it running. Some of these local charities don't get any financial aid from local authorites or funding bodies ,and so rely on donations from members of the public and large organisations such as Rotary Club International and the Round Table.
One of these small local charities is Radio Glangwilli based in Carmarthen.
Radio Glangwilli is a voluntary run radio station located in the nurses home at Glangwilli Hospital on the outskirts of Carmarthen.
The organisation has been running for over 40 years. Times at the organisation has changed, since the early days back in the 1970s as back then it was only broadcast a limited hours in the day from a tiny studio.
In 1976 it moved to a portacabin at the back of the hospital, where it stayed until 1996 when it moved to a permanent home in the nurses home. Now it is broadcast 24 hours 7 days a week
The unique thing about the organisation is that all the people running the station are all volunteers who come from all walks of life.
A organisation like Radio Glangwilli is a really good organsiation to do voluntary work for as you have a chance to give something back to the community.
