Around Carmarthenshire and Wales there are lots of organisations and charities that help, support and give advice to people living with dementia and their families. Some of these charities gives people with dementia the chance to socialise with their peers in a safe and informal environment. One charity in Carmarthenshire that does this is Ty Golau based in Kidwelly
Ty Golau is a group for people who have slight memory problems, Alzheimer's or dementia type illnesses.
The organisation opened its doors in Llanelli in 2009 and Kidwelly 2 years later in 2011. It started off with 1 service user but they are now almost at full capacity with 30 service users in Kidwelly plus 8 family / carers attending on a weekly basis. Ty Golau run sessions in Llanelli where 29 are currently attending with 13 carers and we are receiving new referrals on a weekly basis.
The purpose of Ty-Golau is to work with people who have memory problems / dementia type illnesses. We offer a safe environment where they can engage in mentally stimulating activities which have been shown to slow down the ageing process.
Our Values Ty-Golau offers support and respite to family members / carers as they can leave to person they care for within the group in the Knowledge that they are safe, well looked after and having a great time.
